Are Horse Racing Handicapping Systems Any Good and Can You Make Money With a System
By Bill Peterson
Any one who follows horse racing or dog racing knows that there are a lot of people out there who are trying to sell systems to pick winners and make money at the horse track. I have been going to the horse track for 50 years (okay I was just a kid for part of that time, but believe me, I learned fast). One thing I quickly learned was that everybody at the track had an opinion and most of them were all too happy to share it with me, whether I wanted to hear it or not.
Ever see the movie, "Let it Ride" about the guy who has an incredible day at the races and just can't seem to lose? He finally picks his last winner by going around and asking other people who they like in the final race. As each person tells him who is going to win and why, he scratches that runner out. When he is down to his last runner he uses that one as his bet and sure enough, it wins.
Let's face it, we have all had days like that at the track when it seemed like the best way to pick a winner was to find out what our friends liked and bet against them. One thing I have learned is that people who have some kind of method and stick to it generally do better, though sometimes they are still sticking to a losing system. But almost any system is better than no system at all. The old saying, "Those who fail to plan, plan to fail," is certainly true in betting on the horses or dogs.
So the key is to find a system and stick to it, right? Well almost right. The key is to find a system and then figure out what would make it better and tweaked it a little to suit your own style, tastes, and comfort zone. There are some very good systems out there but there are also some real turkeys. My advice is find one that has a money back guarantee. Those are the best and even though they may not make a profit they come close. If you stick with one of them and see why it doesn't quite do it, you may turn it into your own winning system.
The most consistent horse racing systems have to have the basics and a handicapper must understand the basics. I have been around horse racing for 50 years including as an owner. Without the basics the rest is not going to do any good. If you want to learn how a horse owner and insider handicaps just go to True Handicapping and get the truth.
